COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English is an undergraduate degree program designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of English literature, language, and critical theory. This course explores a wide array of literary texts from different periods, genres, and regions—including British, American, Indian, and World literature—while equipping students with the analytical tools to interpret and critique them.
The program aims to cultivate a nuanced appreciation for literary artistry and the cultural, historical, philosophical, and political contexts in which literature is produced and received. Alongside literature, students study the English language and its evolution, enabling them to develop exceptional communication, creative writing, and editing skills. The course also includes exposure to modern literary theories such as feminism, post-colonialism, structuralism, and psychoanalysis, enabling students to engage with texts on a deeper intellectual level. It enhances their ability to think critically, argue persuasively, and write coherently—all of which are valuable skills in both academic and professional fields.
