COURSE DESCRIPTION
The Post Graduate Diploma in Ayurvedic Pharmacy is a specialized program designed to deepen the knowledge and enhance the practical skills of graduates in the field of Ayurvedic medicine, particularly in the preparation, processing, dispensing, and regulation of Ayurvedic pharmaceuticals. Rooted in the rich heritage of Indian traditional medicine, this diploma bridges classical Ayurvedic wisdom with modern pharmaceutical techniques to produce competent professionals capable of contributing to the rapidly growing Ayurvedic healthcare sector.
This program typically spans 1 to 2 years, depending on the institute and curriculum, and is structured to provide both theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical training in various aspects of Ayurvedic pharmacy. It includes in-depth studies of classical Ayurvedic texts (like Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, and Bhaishajya Ratnavali), pharmacognosy, identification and authentication of raw herbal materials, preparation techniques of Ayurvedic formulations, quality control, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Ayurvedic pharmacopoeia standards.
Students learn to prepare a wide range of Ayurvedic formulations such as churna (powders), vati/gutika (tablets), kwath (decoctions), asava–arishta (fermented liquids), lepa (ointments), taila (medicated oils), and ghrita (medicated ghee). The course also focuses on safety evaluation, standardization, and the application of scientific principles in the manufacturing process, making graduates proficient in both traditional and modern pharmaceutical sciences.
